Rio de Janeiro Coast has 45 catalogued beaches. Between Rio’s granite peaks and the islands of Ilha Grande Bay, iconic urban beaches share the coast with remote coves reachable only by boat.
High season runs from July to mid-September. Outside it prices fall 30 to 50 per cent and most access points, restaurants and local transport keep running.
