Vila Kalango

9.5 / 10 · 361 reviews Award-winning beachfront pousada · 24 bungalows between Jericoacoara beach and Sunset Dune Updated June 2026

Vila Kalango sits on Rua das Dunas, in the heart of Jericoacoara village on Ceará's western coast — a short walk from Jericoacoara Beach and the Sunset Dune. It is one of Jeri's oldest and best-known pousadas, with 24 units split between 7 apartments, 8 bungalows and 9 stilt houses, all built in wood on eucalyptus pillars, with adobe-brick walls that give the property a rustic feel woven into its coconut and cashew-tree grounds.

By design, the rooms have no television — the idea is to keep guests connected to the surroundings rather than a screen. Each unit has a private veranda with hammock space, and depending on category, either a ceiling fan or air conditioning, plus a hot shower heated by solar power. Like almost all of Jericoacoara's historic centre, which has no paved streets, getting around on foot is the norm — reception operates 24 hours.

Pool, restaurant and spa

At the centre of the property is a lagoon-style pool surrounded by sun loungers, with a bar right by the water. The ocean-facing restaurant serves Brazilian cuisine made from local produce, including regionally caught fresh fish. The pousada also has a spa offering massages and other treatments, and breakfast is served as a continental buffet.

Watersports and life in Jeri

Guests have access to WSC Brasil, a watersports school with a sailors' support room offering kitesurfing, wingfoil, windsurfing, stand-up paddle and surf lessons — Jericoacoara is one of Brazil's best-known wind destinations, particularly from July to December. The pousada has a sister property, Rancho do Peixe, in the neighbouring village of Preá, about 30 minutes away by car, for guests who want to combine the two stays.

Getting there

The most direct route is via Jericoacoara Airport (QJC), around an hour away; the alternative is flying into Fortaleza and continuing by road — a journey of several hours, partly over sand tracks, since the final stretch across the dunes usually requires a 4x4. The environmental protection rules that shape this access, and the reason Jeri has such a different traffic regime from other beaches in the Northeast, are explained in detail in the journal article on Sancho and Jericoacoara: two beaches, two laws.

For travellers who would rather not tackle the drive independently, the pousada also arranges transport from Fortaleza airport, roughly 290 km (180 miles) away by road. Families are catered for with suitable units, and breakfast is one of the aspects most praised in guest reviews.

On Booking.com, Vila Kalango holds an overall 9.5/10 rating ("Exceptional") based on 361 reviews, with 9.6 for cleanliness and comfort, 9.8 for location and 8.9 for value for money — third-party data reflecting real guests' opinions, not CoveTrip's own assessment.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Vila Kalango from the Sunset Dune and the centre of Jeri?

The pousada sits between the beach and the Sunset Dune, inside Jericoacoara village, so the centre and the dune are both a short walk away, no transport needed.

Do I need a 4x4 to reach Vila Kalango?

Not within the village — getting around is done on foot, since Jericoacoara's core has no paved streets. A 4x4 is normally only needed on the final stretch of road from Fortaleza, over sand and dunes, unless you fly directly into Jericoacoara Airport (QJC).

Do the rooms have air conditioning and a TV?

Depending on the unit category, there is either a ceiling fan or air conditioning, but no room has a television — a deliberate design choice by the pousada.
